    The New York Emperors Stickball League has been in existance since about the summer of 1986. The league was formed in the borough of the Bronx and the game is played on the street, every Sunday from 10am - 5pm. The games are played on Stickball Blvd. formely Newman street. The New York Emperors board put in a request to the City of New York back when Mayor Koch was in office to change the name to Stickball Blvd. and the request was granted. However since 2003 the street name was changed once again to Stickball Blvd./Steve Mercado. Steve Mercado was a firefighter and the President of The New York Emperors Stickball League. We lost Steve during the attacks of 9/11/01. Once again we made the request for his name to be added to the street sign to honor Steve and thanks to the local politicians we were able to get it approved. The New York Emperors Stickball League season runs from April thru August. We host a Memorial Day weekend tournament every year. The tournament is a 3 day tournament. Each team plays 3 games on Saturday and 3 games on Sunday top 8 teams go on to play a one game elimination game on Monday. Teams from the 5 boroughs of New York, New Jersey, San Diego, Puerto Rico, Santo Domingo and Florida come down to compete. On Labor Day weekend the league travels to either San Diego, Puerto Rico or Florida to compete in their tournaments. The Labor Day tournament alternates each year. We also host a Columbus Day weekend tournament. Teams consist of a 16 man roster. 8 maximum on the Field plus a DH can be added. Style of stickball is called Fungo (selfhitting). Rules are similar to baseball as far as running bases. You only have one chance to hit the ball one swing and out.
